![]() Since active skills and passive skills (traits) have now been completely separated, players no longer need to feel like they are 'sacrificing' points in order to get permanent benefits and not spectacular skills and abilities. They were designed specifically to replace the statistics from Diablo II, as this system has become outdated and didn't allow genuine character customization. Traits were mostly unique to character classes, with some overlap. They were replaced with Passive Skills before the game was released. They altered core character attributes and, to some extent, even mechanics of the class. Traits were passive skills that allow character customization and diversifying builds. The Trait system was a feature of Diablo III introduced during BlizzCon 2010. Then a massive web of videogame bullshit opens up, and it’s hard to even parse where to start.For Monster Skills, see Monster Traits (Diablo III). But for now, this should help with theorycrafting ahead of hundreds of hours of min/maxing in Diablo IV when it launches. Obviously this tool is a work in progress as things will undoubtedly change in the game itself. Their Diablo IV Build Calculator is hosted on a github page, so all you need to do is load the page up and you can get started without downloading anything. To that end, there’s already a browser-based tool that can help you pre-plan a character build. It’s especially easy to do that kind of speculative work with how transparent Blizzard has been about the game’s mechanics. But the open beta testing is kicking off very soon, and fans are already looking for ways to get started before they can get started.
